Department of Health - Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD)
Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC)

The DDPC promotes advocacy, capacity building, and systemic change to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.  It provides the following services and programs; support for self-advocacy, education and early intervention and the Guardianship program.  The Center for Self-Advocacy, also a program operating under DDPC, provides trainings by self-advocates and other social supports.

Department of Education - Special Education - Ages 3 – 21

States’ departments of education oversee disability education services to children.  It monitors school districts for compliance with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).  The Department of Education handles formal complaints, due process hearings and mediation on special education issues.

Adelante is a nonprofit agency that provides individualized support services for over 1000 New Mexicans with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities, as well as disabled veterans and the elderly.  It provides such programs as assistive technology, residential services, day programs, supported employment and training.
